We run four rounds of funding each year.

Applications for our funding rounds close on the last day of each financial quarter:

  • 31 March

  • 30 June

  • 30 September

  • 31 December

You are welcome to submit your application at any time. Your application will go into the round of funding that is currently open, up to and including the close date.

Any applications received after the close date will go into the next round of funding.

Decisions will be communicated to all applicants within 8 weeks of the funding round close date. Payment will be made within one month of application approval (or later if preferred).

How to apply

You can either download a form and email it to apply@taitfoundation.nz, or fill out an application form online.

If filling in the downloaded form, please ensure it is Version 003 (shown in the document header).

If filling out the form online, please note that you cannot save your application part way through. We recommend completing your answers offline, then copying them into the form fields.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Any not-for-profit organisation can apply for funding. You must be operating within Canterbury.

  • You may apply as often as you like. Funding will only be approved once in a 12-month period to any organisation unless there are extenuating reasons for more often than this.

  • We fund for any STEM education related programmes that fit within one of our core focus areas (starting younger, equal access, teacher ability and capacity, building bridges and putting value on STEM).

  • We have funded projects from as little as $1,000 up to $100,000. We will not always fund the whole value applied for. This will be determined by the Board on a case-by-case basis. At each round of funding there will be a set amount of available contestable funds. The amount given out will depend on having enough suitable applications.

  • Funding is provided exclusive of GST. If you are a GST registered organisation, please provide the GST exclusive costs. If you are NOT registered for GST, you need to provide the GST inclusive amounts.

  • Yes, our funding has no limitations on what it can be applied to (except for within Canterbury).

  • We will fund any/all expenses relating to the delivery of the relevant programme.

  • Yes. We want to see evidence that any devices are used for more than ‘digital literacy.’ Specifically, we want to see an integrated view of STEM and a level of additionality to current learning opportunities. We may not fund the full value applied for.

  • The application form is available on our website. This can be completed online or via the word doc that is available. If completing online, please have all your information ready to go as you cannot save progress.

  • We are looking for applications that align strongly with our mission statement and fits within at least one of our focus areas. It is not necessarily advantageous to demonstrate alignment with more than one. We also consider a wide range of factors including how capable of success the project is, the depth of impact and how efficient the project is. This assessment will support whether we agree to fund all, part or none of the application.

  • Absolutely. Please email info@taitfoundation.nz if you have any concerns about your submitted application. We will also use the period between your application being submitted and the board decision to make sure all applications are complete and we will request any further information we think necessary to fully assess your application.

  • Yes – our rounds are open for back-to-back periods. We will not move applications into different funding rounds (unless you ask us to hold an application for a later date).

  • We will be in touch as soon as possible after the decision has been made by the Board. Funding will be released within 6 weeks of the decision date.
